Sini Saju
Country: India.
University: Lithuanian University of Health Sciences
Year: 6
They say that “Home is where your heart is”. Well, that is definitely my case. I call this place my “second home”. My name is Saju Sini and I am a medical student at LUHS.
This country has given me more than I could have asked for. I arrived in Kaunas on a cold October morning, not knowing what to expect from this country in the heart of Europe.
When I stepped into my second home, I was met by a warm group of Lithuanians. I could feel happiness and enthusiasm in their hearts. Their warm conversations and the love I felt from them have, to this day, left a footprint on my heart. What has impressed me the most about the people who live here is their pure naivety and curiosity about everything that life has to offer.
On the other hand, if (like me) you are the type of person who loves food, you will definitely enjoy Lithuania’s excellent homemade food. Even though I probably didn’t have access to all the latest technology during my time in Kaunas, it has taught me to enjoy its simplicity and beauty and to enjoy life in my 20s.
For those interested in exploring the country’s landscapes and heritage, I strongly recommend visiting Trakai and Nida, Birstonas, the world heritage sites in Kernave and Vilnius old town.
Its white winters, orange autumns, colourful springs and wonderful summers make Lithuania one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen.
With regards to the education it offers, the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences has helped me to discover the world of medicine. The professors, the teaching staff, the hospital facilities and the library provide students with the necessary support to be successful in their medical degree programme. In my opinion, the increasing number of European students applying to the university speaks for itself.
I have been living in one of the LUHS Halls of Residence for 4 years and I have to say that it is even dearer to my heart than my own home. It is equipped with a kitchen and a bathroom, making my stay extremely comfortable. The Halls of Residence are the best place to make new friends – I have become close friends with both national and international students.
I could write pages and pages about this beautiful place, but I would like to finish by saying that Lithuania is worth visiting for its culture, beauty, traditions, food and climate.
I will miss this lovely place.
